Review Rant

Usually I don't do this sort of post but today I felt like I really wanted to get this out.I was recently contacted by a company to review a couple of their products.I was so excited to be able to try out some new beauty items and let my followers/subscribers know if they are worth buying.I had seen a lot of YouTube Video reviews on these products, and nothing but good things said about them.Needless to say when I received more information from the company I was told that I had to "say positive things" about their products in my videos/post.As soon as I found this out I denied the offer of course.
Then started wondering about all the other reviews I have seen out there. Are they truly someones honest opinion? Did they lie about the product just to get it for free? I'm not so sure that I will look at reviews the same way especially when some do not put a disclaimer if the products was given or purchased. I do not want my followers/subscribers ever have to question if my reviews are honestly the way I feel about the product. I will never lie, glorify,or praise a product if that's not my genuine feeling about it.I mean what's the point of reviews if their not truthful, right?

  1. That is very true! I am not really a book reviewer but an author had contacted me and wanted me to review his book but to "work with him on the wording".. NO THANK YOU!

But your right, then your readers might not what you say in the future. I think that was a good idea on your part!

  2. That's so true! I never know whether or not I can trust reviews on the internet- I usually end up hitting up Makeupalley for confirmation, and if the reviews are overall consistent, I know I can probably trust the blogger/youtuber.

But seriously, what's even the point of reviewing something if you're not going to be honest? And shouldn't companies WANT honest feedback on their products?

So glad you're honest about it!!

  3. wow that really sucks!! It's never crossed my mind that some people would actually accept sucky products, and lie about it just because. wow... I give my honest opinion on everything I review. That's what my readers are looking to my blog for. If I found out I HAD to say something good in order to get it, I'd deny the products too!

  4. Absolutely right!I would never do a 'good' review just because someone wants me to.If your product sucks-I tell people that it sucks.Everyone no matter if you´re a blogger or making videos on youtube should say honest things about the products they´re showing.

  6. I wouldn't accept either! At least now you know that you shouldn't buy anything from that company!

I receive free products from 2 companies and they let me say whatever I want, which is very important to me. I do feel bad writing a bad review if I don't like it, but that's better than lying about it. I just hope my readers know that I'll always be honest and trust me!

  7. that's kind of unfair of them... I saw beauty bloggers on youtube who accept products but won't review them if they didn't like them... so the company doesn't have any negative feedback... but that's trickery in my mind...

I prefer to just buy my stuff... then if I don't like it, I feel justified in my honest negative review :)

  12. Yea, I know exactly how you feel. Although I have not encountered the issue of having to say positive/good things about a product, I have definitely had to carefully consider each offer/proposal!
